In You

I have heard many times
That you have died for me
To save me from my sin and death
To live for eternity
But this still leaves me feeling empty

What about the things I’ve done
How are they left behind
What about your beloved son
He hung He bled He died
Such great love is a mystery
He hung He bled He died but it’s not the end

He lives we have the victory
He lives we’re embraced for eternity
Death and shame guilt and pain
Forever free forever I’ll be in You
Coz You’re in me

The beauty of the Triune God in our humanity
You came to show the Father’s face
To show His love and grace
You cried it is finished and striving has ceased
In You all things are complete

Creator of the universe You hung You bled You died
You went deeper than I’d ever go
But the Father’ brought You back to life
And now You’re seated at His right hand
You hung You bled You died but its not the end

You live we have the victory
You live we’re embraced for eternity
Death and shame guilt and pain
Forever free forever I’ll be in You
Coz You’re in me

I was having lunch with a friend of mine who told me of a conversation she had had with a young woman who had never been told that Jesus had risen from the dead.

I was stunned and kept thinking about how I would feel if the only thing I had been told was that Jesus had died. What would happen to the things I had done? What about death? It left me feeling so empty.

This same friend then asked me to sing at her church so I started writing this song to try and wrestle with some of those thoughts.

The truth is that yes Jesus died but it’s not the end. The Father raised Him back to life. He lives! Jesus came embraced us just as we are took all our humanity, brokenness, sin, shame to the cross, died and rose again. Death, sin, shame, guilt, pain is swallowed up in Jesus. It is finished. We have the victory in Jesus! Jesus’ death and resurrection gives us freedom and inclusion into something we could never achieve on our own.

I don’t know about you but this gives me hope. It is all done!

He hung, He bled He died BUT it’s not the end!

Thank you Jesus!
